You've got to hand it to him. He sure can rally a crowd behind a nice cause. A cause which is pretty... nice. Something light hearted and heart warming.
He can also really rally people behind him on a political cause, something intricate and very complex with simple statements. "We can bring change to the White House", I believe was one of his quotes. We'll paint it black, I believe, was not.
More to the point.
He's a fantastic new contrasting face to the White House in a long time. And that's not a skin colour comment, it's a popularity one; people hated the US government and Bush as it's frontman. Now, we have a clever and rather aesthetically pleasing facade for the White House's actions. Now, US politics has never really been one to be popular but at last we have a really enthusiastic and outgoing President. We have seen him on a couple of chat shows, he has won the Nobel Peace Prize and his wife is doing some stunning work and presentations in schools all over the United States.
I say facade for a reason.
We may have finally rid ourselves of a terrible speaker and a complete clown of a President, but that doesn't mean that the rest of the Washington Elite will simply fall in line, switch their alliegences and fall behind an unprofitable cause. The fatcats and rich white Jews that really run the United States won't let Obama change anything.
Do you think Colt, Smith+Wesson, Remington, Barratt, all the gun companies will like it if Obama pulls out of both Iraq and Afghanistan? Most of America's post WW2 life it has been involved in heavy military development. Korea, Vietnam, the Cold War, and now the Middle East. Gun development, and for that matter, all weapons and military vehicles, have become an incredibly ludicrous and lucritive industry. Weapon companies, especially Colt, who were famous for the Sameul Colt and the M4, have turned weapons manufacturing into a multibillion dollar industry.
Selling weapons to the clueless public is just the tip of the iceberg, at $100 million a year, a fairly 'nice' amount of money. The weapons they develop for the military and produce are on a far greater scale both in numbers and in price. The US government buys it's small arms at $1 billion a year, and that's merely for the .45 caliber M1911A1s that are sidearms to every soldier in the entire US army/navy/air force/secret ops, from Colt alone.
ARMALITE, Colt Defense, Glock, Barratt, Remington and Smith+Wesson are said to be earning around $249 billion from sales to the US Army (including vehicles, weapons, researchers into the field and tactical deployment in some cases) during times of any form of conflict, and around $2 billion in times of no form of any conflict at the most.
You can see why these gun slingers would want to keep their country in a war. Most of the top managers and shady businessmen in these companies have a large hand in politics. No longer is it the gangsters that threaten Mayors and Senators, but the carrot style approach of support and massive sums of money from the right people that keep the city, the state and even Congress in the sales. Such is the power of the corporations that they have direct and unfortunately legal effects on people.
If you read deep in the papers, you will have seen that Arnie of Cali (please don't make me spell his surname) recently made 50 caliber bullets illegal. Now, let me give you the picture; these bullets can pierce tanks, any car, bullet proof anything, it has even been known to have caused large amounts of damage to a battleship. This bullet is unnessesarily big. If it ever hit a human, the part you hit would literally explode like a balloon, literally.
So you can see why it was made illegal. After such cases like the Waco Siege where the FBI was on the recieving end of such phenomenally fast and big bullets, they were made illegal in California.
Barratt (who make lots of money selling 50 caliber bullet firing weapons, most known the Barratt M107 50 Cal Sniper) were furious, so refused to sell any form of weapon to the Californian police force, and every other gun runner company, except Remington (whose prices are high anyway), started selling their weapons much more expensively to the Californian police departments and its National Guard Military. Barratt stopped selling at all.
This is just one small example of what Obama faces. There are also bankers, who do NOT want to see a reformed economy, pharmaceutical companies (who sell at a staggering $200 billion a year on prescription drugs alone) who do NOT want to see a free health care system, oil and energy companies (who make unimaginable amounts of money), who do NOT want to see environmental changes, and honestly, the list goes on.
I don't think we'll see much major change about the White House.
